CHICAGO — A 56-year-old man, later identified as Benson Collins, was shot and killed in Austin Friday, police said.

At 11:02 a.m., Benson was walking in the 5100 block of West Thomas Street when a black colored vehicle drove up and began firing shots, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in his chest and arm, and taken to John H. Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Cooper said.

According to police, he did not appear to be the intended target.

Benson Collins, 55, of the 4800 block of West Cortland Street, was pronounced dead at 12 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
