The king and queen of the Netherlands might not be as powerful world leaders as the Obamas, but when it comes to modern music, the Dutch royals just might be more hip than America’s first family.

In their home country, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are considered “EDM aficionados.” Indeed, the royal couple celebrated the king’s 2013 coronation on stage with Dutch EDM DJ Armin van Buuren.

So it wasn't a total surprise when king and queen recently added a trip to Pritzker Pavilion to catch the high-energy “Amsterdam meets Chicago” EDM (that’s short for electronic dance music) concert to their royal visit itinerary.

The king and queen plan to check out the pulsating electronic music showcase put on by the The School of House, a Dutch education program for the EDM industry, featuring DJs from the Netherlands and Chicago, the birthplace of house music.

It’s not just a social call for the king and queen. Dutch EDM music is world-renowned and a big industry in the Netherlands. The king and queen’s appearance aims to show their support.

The Tuesday showcase, which starts at 5 p.m. includes Dutch DJs Duncan Sutterheim, Attila Meijs and Richard Zijima along with Chicago DJs Steve “Silk” Hurley,” Super Jane and the group Porn & Chicken.
