CHICAGO — The Blackhawks may still be alive in the playoffs but it's good to be a Chicago Bull.
Bulls players make, on average, the highest salaries among the city's pro sports squads, according to a new study that looks at teams around the world.
The Bulls average salary is $4.8 million, good for number 29 on the global list by ESPN/SportingIntelligence Global Salary Survey. Total salary for the Bulls team was $67.6 million.
White Sox players are next at number 56 globally, with an average salary of $4.1 million and a team total payroll of $115.2 million. The Cubs are at 68, at $3.6 million and $119 million, the top payroll of Chicago teams.
The other teams listed were:
Blackhawks (76 globally): $3.3 million and $75.6 million.
Bears (144): $2.2 million, $111.6 million.
Fire (289): $211,000, $5.3 million.
Topping the list for per player salary was Paris Saint-Germain of France's Ligue 1. The soccer team's players averaged $9.1 with a team payroll of $227.1 million.
The highest payroll was the Los Angeles Dodgers at $272.8 million.
The NBA has the highest average per-player salary of the 17 major leagues the report studied, coming in at $4.6 million, just ahead of India's IPL cricket ($4.3 million.)
The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
