DOWNTOWN — An 11-year CPS veteran will lead Ogden International School after a yearlong search for a new principal.

Ogden's Local School Council voted Monday night to offer a four-year principal contract to Michael Beyer, who is currently the principal of Morrill Math & Science School in Chicago Lawn. Beyer accepted the offer and will begin July 1, council Chairwoman Tracy Shine said.

Beyer, who met with parents of the Downtown K-12 school last week, will become Ogden's latest principal since his interim predecessor left last month, and the school's fifth head administrator since longtime Principal Kenneth Staral resigned in 2013.

Beyer said then that Ogden was "highly functional" and required more of a "focus on steady improvement, not transformational change."

"I've never seen a school like [Ogden]. It's really a gem," Beyer said last week.

Shine said nine members of the council voted to offer the contract, with one voting against.

"The feedback from the staff and community to the [local school council] was extremely positive," the Ogden council said via e-mail Monday.
