Motor Club Hampton Inn to Serve 'Giggle Water,' Myeah See?

DOWNTOWN — Having already brought the former Motor Club Building back to its 1920s glory, the new Hampton Inn off Michigan Avenue hopes to do the same with its drink menu.

Jack's Place, the hotel bar/restaurant at 68 E. Wacker Place, will have a signature cocktail when it opens at 5 p.m. Tuesday: "Giggle Water," which is apparently what people called booze during the Prohibition.

Sold for $12, the cocktail is made with gin, rum, tonic, simple syrup, lime, parsley and a splash of bourbon on top. Ryan McKenzie, the new hotel's general manager, says the drink is "refreshing."

"You still feel it, but it goes down smooth," McKenzie said. "If you have two of them you're feeling it."

The Hampton Inn Chicago Michigan Avenue, as the Motor Club hotel is officially called, and its bar will open to guests Tuesday night after nearly two years of renovations, joining a bevy of new Downtown hotels.
