AUBURN GRESHAM — Spike Lee will attend a St. Sabina-hosted block party on Memorial Day.
The party will celebrate the start of filming for Lee's new film, which is being shot in Englewood. The event is from 12-6 p.m. and will take place on Throop Street between 78th and 79th Street.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger stood beside Lee last Thursday as the director defended his upcoming film, reportedly to be called “Chiraq," at a news conference.
The film will be a musical comedy, according to Screen Daily, and sources have confirmed that Lee's latest project will be a remake of "Lysistrata," Aristophanes' ancient Greek comedy about how women withheld sex to try to stop the Peloponnesian War. The version Lee has in mind features South Side women doing the same thing to end their community's violence.
Crews plan to film in Chicago in Englewood and other neighborhoods starting this month and continuing through July.
