COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Roseland teen accused of shooting an off-duty police officer was held without bail Monday.

Prosecutors allege David Bush, 17, and an accomplice attacked an Oak Park Police officer as he was leaving his Roseland home about 5 a.m. Sunday.

The officer, who was heading into work for a 6 a.m. shift, was wearing a Cubs jersey over his outfit, concealing a badge and gun, Assistant State's Attorney Enrique Abraham said during a bond hearing Monday.

Bush pointed a gun at the 56-year-old officer, while his accomplice searched the man, according to police and prosecutors.

The accomplice, who hasn't yet been charged, told Bush the victim had something on him, Abraham said. At that point, the victim pulled his gun and yelled "Police!" before opening fire. Bush fired back, Abraham said.

The officer was shot in his right arm and calf, and grazed in his left side. Police said the man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

Bush, meanwhile, was shot in his right thigh, left arm and left ankle, and grazed in his abdomen, Abraham said. Bush allegedly called a friend a few minutes later and told her he'd been shot and was with the accomplice near the 9900 block of South Princeton Avenue.

The concerned friend called 911, prosecutors said, and police set up a search in the area. Officers found Bush and his accomplice hiding under a stairwell.

Bush, of the 10500 block of South La Salle Street, was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

He has a previous juvenile conviction for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to prosecutors. Bush was given 30 months of probation, which he failed to complete. On March 23, 2015, he pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen motor vehicle; his next court date for that case is in June.

Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered Bush held without bail.

The witness identified Bush, Abraham said, and shell casings collected at the scene matched his gun.
