CHICAGO — A 24-year-old man was shot early Wednesday in Logan Square.

Around 2:55 a.m., the man was walking in the 2700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue when a light-colored SUV pulled alongside him and someone inside opened fire, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The SUV then drove northbound through an alley.

The man was struck in his upper torso near his armpit and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Estrada said.

Mikal Johnson, 24, of the 1800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Johnson was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, the Medical Examiner's office said.

Jesus Resendez, 25, a friend of Johnson's since middle school, stopped by hoping to find Johnson's family and pay his respects after learning his Johnson had been killed.

"He was a good guy," Resendez said, who described Johnson as outgoing and athletic. "He had a lot of friends, he talked to everyone."

Following Johnson's death, friends took to social media to pay their respects.

No one is in custody for the shooting, police said.
