CHICAGO — A new survey finds that when it comes to taboo topics, respondents in Chicago would rather talk about cash than cuddling.

Nerdwallet, a personal finance web site, asked some 1,200 people in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago about credit card debt (we'll get to that in a minute) and how comfortable they are discussing money, sex, religion and politics.

In Chicago, respondents were least concerned about "flaunting their finances," as a Nerdwallet release puts it — only about 15 percent considered money to be off-limits, followed by politics (20 percent), religion (29 percent) and sex (36 percent.)

By comparison, those surveyed in San Francisco were most reluctant to talk money (31 percent) and most comfortable talking about sex, (only 22 percent considered it taboo.)

The survey also asked about credit card balance. Chicagoans reported an average of $5,749. New York was the worst with $8,266, Los Angeles was $5,526 and San Francisco was $4,976.

Some 44 percent said in the survey they don't carry any credit card debt.
