LINCOLN PARK — America's top chefs will converge on the Green City Market on its opening day this spring.

In honor of the 2015 James Beard Foundation Awards, which will take place in Chicago for the first time this year, visiting chefs will gather at the city's premier farmers market.

The chefs will be at the market May 2 to kick off Green City's 17th season.

"Green City Market is considered one of the top green markets in the United States, and we think it is an especially appropriate place to honor the occasion," said Sarah Stegner, a James Beard winner and chef at the Prairie Grass Cafe.

The James Beard-nominated chefs will gather with Chicago's chef community at the market starting at 9:30 am.

Green City Market board members and fellow past James Beard Award winners Stegner, who is also co-president of Green City Market board, Carrie Nahabedian (Naha and Brindille) and Bruce Sherman (North Pond) are the hosting chefs.

"As this is the first time the awards are being held outside of New York City, it clearly indicates that Chicago is recognized as a wold-class culinary center," Stegner said.

This year is the 25th anniversary of the James Beard Awards.
