Weekend Violence Leaves Two Dead, 16 Wounded

CHICAGO — Shootings this weekend left two people dead and another 16 hospitalized across the city, police said.

The most recent fatality occurred around 6:35 p.m. in Lincoln Square.

In non-fatal shootings, a 27-year-old man walked into Provident Hospital after being shot in Back of the Yards, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Around 11:10 a.m. Sunday, the man was shot in his left leg as he walked in the 5200 block of South Green Street. His condition was stabilized, Sullivan said.

Later Sunday, a 17-year-old was treated and at Community First Medical Center and released after being shot around 5:45 p.m., Sullivan said.

The teen said he was walking in the 1700 block of North McVicker Avenue when he was shot in his leg, Sullivan said.

The boy was uncooperative with police and further information was unavailable.

Around 1:20 p.m., a 46-year-old man was shot in his cheek and leg in Lawndale.

From Saturday into Sunday, 12 people were wounded in shootings across the city.

Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, a man was fatally shot in his chest near his back porch in Auburn Gresham.
