HUMBOLDT PARK — Winter will be over eventually and West Town Bikes is ready to help get your ride in good shape with "Slow Ride Into Spring."

The Humboldt Park bike workshop will host a series of maintenance and repair events Friday, March 6 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., ahead of proper biking weather in the coming months.

In celebration of Spring, the bike shop will present an evening of bicycle classes and live music at one of the area’s favorite dive bars, with profits from the night going to benefit West Town Bikes youth programs, bike classes and neighborhood events.

The party goes from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. where the rock stars of West Town Bikes will teach Basic Bike Maintenance and Winter Bike Revival as live records are spun on the dance floor by CHIRP DJs, East of Edens, Soul Express and DJ Scrabblor.

CLASS INFORMATION

Bike experts from West Town’s youth programs, volunteer base, Women’s Night and Ciclo Urbano will be on hand to guide guests through all the mechanical basics and maintenance rudiments to get you in the saddle and rolling strong all year long.

Basic Bike Maintenance: 8 p.m. / 8:30 p.m.
In this class West Town Bikes will teach all the things to you need to know to keep your bike in safe working order. Instructors will cover how to check your tires, drivetrain and brakes as well as other mechanical essentials.

Winter Bike Revival: 9 p.m. / 10 p.m.
Winter destroys a bike. Whether you ride it or leave it outside, the weather isn't easy on our wheels. This class covers the finer points of winter cleaning, special winter maintenance and what to expect when you bring your bike into the shop after a long abusive Winter. Some basic maintenance will also be covered so if you miss Basic Bikes, feel free to join this class.

The 21+ “Slow Ride into Spring” event is $10 per person and includes all classes, demonstrations, lecture and Q&A — no bicycle required.
