NEW YORK CITY — New York's Cardinal Edward Egan, a native of Oak Park, died on Thursday.
Cardinal Egan, who was appointed Archbishop of New York in 2000 and made cardinal in 2001, died at 2:20 p.m. at NYU Langone Medical Center, according to the archdiocese. He was 82 years old.
Egan retired in 2009 but was still involved in the work of the Archdiocese and the Vatican, officials said.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
