Police Shoot Man Who Allegedly Tried To Run Them Over

CHICAGO — Chicago police shot and wounded a man who allegedly attempted to run an officer over with his vehicle Saturday afternoon in West Pullman, police said.

About 2:35 p.m., gang enforcement officers pulled over a vehicle in the 300 block of West 115th Street as part of a drug investigation, police said in a statement.

"In an attempt to flee, the male driver crashed into a Chcago Police vehile and attempted to strike an officer with his vehicle," the statement said. "As a result of this action, the officers discharged their weapons striking the offender."

The man was hospitalized and "stable," police said.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating and further details were not immediately available.
