CHICAGO — Two men were shot, one fatally, on the same block as a Brighton Park elementary school Tuesday evening.

Around 5 p.m., a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were shot while walking in the 4200 block of South Rockwell Street, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

James Shields Elementary School, 4250 S. Rockwell St., is on the same block.

The 21-year-old was shot in his head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, police said.

He was identified as 31-year-old Rene Arredondo, a man who lived on the same block as the shooting, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 18-year-old also was taken to Mount Sinai after being shot in his arm and back. He was listed in serious condition, Zala said.

No one is in custody for the shooting, officials said.
