NORTH CENTER — Even though there are nearly two dozen designated sites across the city for Christmas tree recycling, plenty of Scotch pines and Fraser firs still wind up in the trash, and ultimately the landfill.

Last year, a hardy group of volunteers from the Northcenter Neighborhood Association combed the community's alleys for trees and hauled more than 175 to Park District dropoff points.

This year, NNA is asking folks to meet them halfway.

The association has secured two locations within North Center where people can discard their trees, which NNA members will then truck to Clark Park, 3400 N. Rockwell St., the nearest Park District recycling site.

Through Jan. 10, trees can be brought to either Montrose Green, 1819 W. Montrose Ave., or Northcenter Town Square, 4100 N. Damen Ave.

Trees must be stripped of all lights, ornaments, tinsel and/or garland.

NNA will take the trees to Clark Park on Jan. 4 and Jan. 11. If you'd like to help haul the trees or have a pick-up truck you could loan to the group for a few hours, email info@northcenterneighborhood.org or sign up online to volunteer.
