BRIDGEPORT — The joint volunteer advisory councils that help steer programming at McGuane and Palmisano parks are asking for the public's help in suggesting activities for 2015.

A public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 5 at the McGuane Park field house, 2901 S. Poplar Ave.

Located adjacent to one another, both parks saw unique programming in addition to the regularly scheduled activities in 2014.

Volunteers at McGuane Park for example, organized a watershed education seminar and a "sandbox garden" program to help kids understand native plants.

The landfill-turned-nature-preserve of Palmisano Park, meanwhile, saw the addition of the 10,000 Ripples art installation, multiple concerts and the "Bridgeport Air and Water Show," a kid-friendly event featuring food trucks, kite flying and stargazing.

The Palmisano Park council recently won an award from Friends of the Parks for helping to host events like the Bridgeport Air and Water Show and "clean and green" park cleanup days.
