MORGAN PARK — Southsiders For Peace will march down 111th Street in Morgan Park on Saturday.

The march and subsequent rally called "Fight Racism: Take Back The Streets" begins at noon at 111th Street and Western Avenue. The march will end at the Morgan Park Police Station at 1900 W. Monterey Ave.

In September, racist graffiti was found in six locations near Morgan Park High School. A prayer vigil and community discussion on racism followed. The person responsible for the racist vandalism was never found.

In addition to that incident, the march also comes in the wake of similar demonstrations throughout Chicago and nationwide. Such events have been held after protestors sought to vent outrage after police killed unarmed black men in Ferguson, Mo. and New York.

Southsiders For Peace was formed in response to the war in Iraq. The group's website says it continues, "to oppose American aggression abroad and to fight for social justice at home."

The group meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Beverly Unitarian Church at 10244 S. Longwood Drive.
