CHICAGO — Police issued a community alert Saturday, warning of a series of pickpocket thefts at North Side CTA stops.
Police said the thefts, which began in late October, have taken place on "CTA property," and a lone victim is approached by one or more suspects. The suspects then pick the victim's pocket.
Police said the thefts have occurred in the:
• 900 block of West Belmont Avenue on Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 3:30 a.m.;
• 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue on Oct. 25 at 8:30 p.m.;
• 900 block of West of Addison Street on Oct. 31 at 1 a.m.;
• 900 block of West Fullerton Avenue on Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.;
• 600 block West Deming Place on Nov. 6 at 10:30 p.m.;
• 900 block of West Wellington Avenue on Nov. 15 at 9 p.m.
Police released descriptions of suspects involved in several of the thefts.
The suspect in the thefts on Belmont is described as a white man, age 20 to 25, standing 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds. He wore a light green hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and has wavy brown or "dirty, scraggly" blonde hair.
The suspect in the Wilson theft is described as a black man, 20 years old, 6-feet tall, weighing 150 to 200 pounds. He wore a black jacket and blue jeans. He has short hair and a dark complexion. Police said another black man was also involved, but provided no description.
The suspect in the theft on Wellington is described as a black man, age 20 to 30, 5-foot-10, 160 to 170 pounds. He wore a green, three-quarter length coat, black jeans and a red skull cap. He has a "black" complexion, police said.
