LINCOLN PARK — The second meeting to discuss the future of the industrial corridor Logan Square, Wicker Park and Lincoln Park along the Chicago River is set for Wednesday.
The North Branch River Works group has been meeting with residents and stakeholders to discuss how to mold the future of the area, which includes the A. Finkl & Sons Co. steel plant and Gutmann Tannery.
The economic development group was awarded a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection agency to survey the 40-plus acre site along the Chicago River.
The two-year process also involves coming up with transportation solutions for the area such as improving the Clybourn Metra Station, creating amenities along the river and possibly widening the Cortland bridge.
Wednesday's meeting starts a 6 p.m. at the Wicker Park/Bucktown Chicago Public Library, 1701 N. Milwaukee Ave.
The project team will be presenting a draft market study and draft redevelopment principals at the meeting.
At the first meeting in in July, residents and other stakeholders spoke of the possibility of turning the sites into a high-tech industrial campus similar to the Fulton Market District and Goose Island areas.
