LINCOLN PARK — Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz will be in Lincoln Park next week to ramp up the local Republican cause.

Cruz is scheduled to attend a breakfast fundraiser held by the 43rd Ward Republicans Oct. 22 at DePaul University's Cortelyou Commons.

"He’s a very, very hard-working guy, and he’s willing to do this kind of thing, which speaks well of him," said 43rd Ward Republicans Committeeman Christopher Cleveland. "Who would think that a national figure would come help a ward organization like this?"

Cruz, the senator from Texas who is rumored to be considering a presidential run, will speak during the breakfast event.

Cruz is expected to speak about national issues as well as offer a briefing about what's happening in Washington.

The event came together by way of a simple invitation, Cleveland said.

"I've known Ted for a while, and we know a lot of people in common, so I asked and that's how it came about essentially," Cleveland said. "We are grateful that he's helping out the Chicago Republican party and the 43rd Ward Republicans in particular."

Tickets to the event at 2324 N. Fremont St. are $40 and $15 for students and can be purchased in advance at eventbrite.com.

The proceeds will go to support Republican candidates running in the City of Chicago.

"We hope that this effort in Chicago will raise the vote here and help put our statewide candidates over the top," Cleveland said.
