ROGERS PARK — The new owners of Hana sushi on Sheridan Road have renamed the restaurant Loyola Roll and plan to open next month.

Hana has been closed since the city shut it down for health code violations found in April.

New owner Susan Choi — who is not related to previous owner Susan Choe — was painting the storefront's interior at 6803 N. Sheridan Road with new sushi chef and business partner James Kang, who recently left Michigan where he ran several sushi restaurants.

"I'm very excited," said Choi, a former real estate broker.

As the restaurant's name suggests, Choi plans to draw as many Loyola University students as possible.

Along with a fresh coat of paint, the restaurant was also rearranged. The sushi counter was moved from the north wall to the the east wall.

Choi said the restaurant's main focus would be on take-out orders.

She said she plans to open early next month but was still awaiting permits from the city.

Hana at one time was operated by two sisters as a take-out and sit-down sushi joint. Then it was taken over by the sisters' brother, who remodeled the restaurant. It was shuttered by the city in April and never reopened.
