LOGAN SQUARE — You’ll have to catch Traci Lavois Thiebaud Thursday if you want to buy or trade for an on-the-spot poem.

The traveling writer was spotted outside the former Johnny’s Grill, 2545 N. Kedzie Blvd., Tuesday night perched in front of a portable typewriter, table and carrying case.

“This is the book tour,” she said, pointing to a copy of her art book, on sale alongside a handwritten sign offering “poems for sale, barter or trade,” a Potbelly's bandana and several $1 and $5 bills. Other trade offers include a bottle of tattoo ink, a guitar pick and poems written on the spot by her customers.

“I used to do it to live. I did at least 120 poems in one day, in Memphis,” she said. “But I wanted to take a book tour so that’s what I did.”

Thiebaud was set to read and show work from her book Wednesday night at The Cafe Gallery in Wicker Park before leaving town Thursday.
