CHICAGO — A police officer shot a man Saturday night after the suspect allegedly hit the officer with his car in West Town, police said.

The incident occurred aroud 10:15 p.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of West Lake Street, when police attempted to apprehend a man sitting in a car on the block during a narcotic investigation. The man refused when asked to exit the car, and instead accelerated his car towards the officer striking him and knocking him to the ground, police said.

As the officer lay in the street, the man once again accelerated towards him. The officer opened fire as the car approached him, striking the man.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital. The officer was also taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
