BRIDGEPORT — You can help keep Palmisano Park beautiful by lending a hand at an upcoming volunteer cleanup day.

The next event takes place Sept. 20 at the park, where participants will gather about 9 a.m. at the corner of 29th and Halsted streets to get down and dirty. In addition to sprucing up the park, participants will collect and disperse seeds and pull invasive plants.

Organizers will provide participants with tools and gloves, plus offer some light refreshments. The event lasts until about noon.

The effort, part of the Chicago Park District's volunteer stewardship program, asks individuals to spearhead projects in the city's designated nature areas.
