HUMBOLDT PARK — A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died after he was struck by a passing vehicle Sunday night in the 2700 block of West North Avenue, authorities said.

The 55-year-old man was crossing the street when he was hit at about 8:25 p.m., said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman. The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene until authorities arrived.

Red police tape lined the street outside of Cermak Produce as police and witnesses stood near the scene.

The man was taken to Illinois Masonic hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At least one person is in custody since the incident, authorities said.
