JEFFERSON PARK — A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged after police said he shot out a window Wednesday afternoon during an argument with his father.
Steven Johnson, 23, was charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault and misdemeanor criminal damage to property after shooting a window with a handgun during an argument with his 57-year-old father at their home in the 4500 block of north Meade Avenue in Jefferson Park, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.
No one was injured in the incident, Estrada said.
Johnson, who has a history of mental issues, fled after police were called, prompting a massive search that included the Chicago Police helicopter, a SWAT team and police dogs.
As a precaution, children attending day camp at Dunham Park, 4638 N. Melvina Ave., were brought inside, said Ald. Tim Cullerton (38th).
Using Johnson's cell phone, they tracked him around the area, including outside the city limits, Cullerton said.
Johnson turned himself into the Jefferson Park Police District, 5151 W. Milwaukee Ave., late Wednesday and was arrested and charged, Estrada said.
Johnson, who was given a court date and ordered to appear, was unarmed when he was arrested, Estrada said.
