State Street Bridge Closes for 10 Days of Reconstruction Starting Wednesday

DOWNTOWN — The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed Wednesday through Aug. 23 to make room for construction on the Riverwalk project.

The bridge, which will be closed at 6 a.m., will be kept raised as an underbridge for pedestrians is constructed underneath State Street Bridge. The CTA will reroute buses due to the construction, with signs posted at bus stops with more information about the temporary route changes.

A pedestrian path will be constructed on the south bank of the main branch of the Chicago River from State Street to Lake Street.

Detours

• Northbound traffic on State Street will be detoured west on Wacker Drive, move north on LaSalle Street to east on Illinois Street and will then move back on to State Street.
• Southbound traffic on State Street will be detoured west on Grand Avenue, move south on Clark Street to east on Wacker Drive and will then move back on to State Street.
• Northbound bicyclists on State Street will be detoured west on Randolph Street, move north on Dearborn Street and will then move east on Kinzie Street to get back to State Street.
• Southbound bicyclists on State Street will be detoured west on Kinzie Street, move south on Dearborn Street and will then move east on Lake Street to get back to State Street.
