CHICAGO — Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers during two weekend roadside safety checks.

Police will stop drivers they suspect to be drunk during a check from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday at Irving Park Road and Springfield Avenue.

A separate check will be conducted in the Harrison District from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday. Police did not say where the roadside safety check would be in the district.

Police "place emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety-belt violations" during the checks, according to a news release.

During a check last Friday and Saturday in the Shakespeare District, police recorded seven citations for driving under the influence out of 33 total citations. A check last Saturday and Sunday in the Austin District netted zero citations for driving under the influence, though there were 91 total citations for other violations and two arrests.
