HUMBOLDT PARK — A vintage shop for men celebrated its grand opening Wednesday on North Avenue.

Richard Biasi of Richard’s Fabulous Finds, 2545 W. North Ave., opened his storefront to give guests a full view of his high-end vintage clothing stock.

“It’s scary but it’s the next step for my business,” Biasi said, finely dressed in a 1940s-era three-piece suit, chosen “because it’s my grand opening and I wanted to feel grand.”

The 44-year-old Rogers Park resident has spent two decades working in new men's clothing at  stores such as Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus. He began shopping estate sales and the like in 2012, he said, but has already amassed a huge collection of suits, ties, hats and other clothing items from as long ago as the late 19th century up until the 1970s.

"There's only so much I can bring, and there's a lot of guys who want to try things on, so this was the logical next step," he said in April.

Construction of his store took about a month longer than Biasi expected — he was hoping to open in time for the series premiere of AMC’s "Mad Men," possibly the best advertisement for vintage menswear.

After selling his vintage apparel for a few years on sites like Etsy and Ebay, Biasi said men, in his experience, prefer the use of a fitting room before they “drop trou.”

“Just like all men, they want to touch it before they buy it,” he added.

Richard’s Fabulous Finds is currently open on a “by appointment basis.”
