NEAR WEST SIDE — Despite a tweet to the contrary, Lagunitas Brewery won't be opening its taproom June 18, but the space will definitely be up and running before the end of this month, an official said Wednesday.
Karen Hamilton, director of regional marketing for the brewery, said the confusion over the opening date came after Lagunitas founder Tony Magee — who is also Hamilton's brother — took to Twitter to announce the taproom's long-awaited opening date.
"Chicago brewery'll be at 70% of current capacity by mid month &the TapRoom'll be open by the 18th ... Mission nearly accomplished... breathe," Magee tweeted Monday.
But Hamilton said the taproom — housed inside the brewery at 15th and Rockwell streets — is still waiting on a final occupancy permit from the city. With some already planned soft openings, the space won't be ready to open to the public by June 18.
Lagunitas taproom will seat close to 300, with a heated cement countertop at the bar and plenty of windows that overlook the 300,000 square-foot brewery, Hamilton said.
Menu items will include a "Wurst of the Day" — in honor of the German workers who live at the ''Embassy'' across the street — in addition to beer-flavored bread and desserts.
