CHICAGO — The Middle Eastern restaurant scene will get more crowded this summer with the opening of a new eatery on Division Street, a contractor involved in the project said.

A restaurant planned for 2014 W. Division St. in the former Cavalinis Menswear storefront will be practically kitty-corner to Shawarma Garden, which started serving sandwiches, Batata salads, Mujadara and other Middle Eastern staples at 1951 W. Division St. last fall.

A building permit was issued for the new business in late March.

Contractor Mohammad Jamil, who heads Usman Construction in Burr Ridge and is tasked with building out the space, said the Middle Eastern restaurant plans to open in the first or second week of July.

The owner listed on the permit declined to discuss the menu, give the name of the restaurant or provide other details.

Once opened, the restaurant will join the ranks of similar concepts in the neighborhood such as Flat Iron Pita Grill, 1571 N. Milwaukee Ave., which opened the same week as Shawarma Garden, along with Sultan's Market at 2057 W. North Ave. and Falafel & Grill at 1317 N. Milwaukee. Ave.
