LOGAN SQUARE — Indulging in a chocolate treat is even sweeter when you know it's for a good cause.

This Wednesday, Veruca Chocolates will auction off 30 hand-decorated dark chocolate Easter eggs to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The 8-inch-tall eggs each feature different, colorful designs making them individual works of arts fit for display on a mantle or as a table centerpiece.

The auction is a first for Veruca Chocolates, whose owner Heather Johnston is herself a survivor of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

She contracted lymphoma, or blood cancer, in 1990 while in college and wanted to give back to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

"We plan to have an ongoing relationship with them, including a special chocolate collection that will run for the month of September to highlight Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month," she said.

Wednesday's event will start at 6 p.m. and feature wine and snacks from Provenance Food & Wine. Guests will then have until 8 p.m. to bid on their favorite egg or eggs.

Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP at sales@verucachocolates.com.
