ROGERS PARK — A man is in custody after a 21-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in her face and body in Rogers Park Wednesday morning, police said.

The woman was stabbed in the 1600 block of West Touhy Avenue about 6:15 a.m. during an argument with a 23-year-old man, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokesman.

The woman was stabbed in the eyes during the attack and lost her eyesight, according to a report from the Sun-Times.

Cops responded to a call of a person being battered, and when they arrived, they found the man standing over the woman with a knife, Sedevic said.

The woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition.

The man was arrested and also taken to St. Francis Hospital for minor cuts on his hands, Sedevic said. He was released from the hospital, Sedevic said, and charges are pending.

"It was not a random attack," said Rogers Park Police District Cmdr. Thomas Waldera, who described the victim and her alleged attacker as acquaintances. "These people knew each other."
