LAKEVIEW — A suburban burger joint is finally close to opening its new Lakeview location after months of a displaying a "coming soon" sign on Southport.

Brothers Anthony and Nick Gambino plan to open the doors at Burger Boss, 3208 N. Southport Ave., in November, Anthony Gambino said.

The burger, fries and milkshakes joint opened in suburban Elmwood Park more than two years ago, he said, and the brothers wanted to expand into a neighborhood where they once lived and played.

"We're pretty fond of the fact that even though it's in the city, it's a neighborhood," Anthony Gambino said.

The Elmwood Park natives have worked in the restaurant business for 30 years. They also own Italian restaurant Cucina Paradiso in suburban Oak Park and catering company Twomaytoz. But burgers are their "passion," he said.

Burger Boss prides itself on serving made-to-order burgers with nonfrozen Midwestern Angus beef, freshly baked buns and fresh-cut french fries, he said.

Diners can customize their burgers, chicken sandwiches, Portobello or veggie burgers, or order signatures like The Elmwood Park Boss, which will be named the "Southport Boss" at the Southport location.

It comes topped with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, Boss sauce, pickles and grilled onions.

"Frankly speaking, we love burgers," Anthony Gambino said. "We love really good burgers. And we think we make really good burgers."

The menu at the Southport location will be the same as the Elmwood Park one and can be seen here. Burger Boss also offers a monthly special burger and special milkshake. November's burger will be a turkey burger with cranberry and stuffing, Gambino said.

Eventually, the brothers hope to open locations across the city and suburbs.
