LINCOLN PARK — Who needs a medicine ball when you have a healthy 20-pound child?

That's the take of Equinox Fitness Club's newest workout class that is geared for new mothers who don't want to leave their children at home when they head to the gym.

The Lincoln Park Equinox, 1750 N. Clark St., held a test run of its first stroller fitness class "Push Your Limits" last week.

Moms, led by instructor Tonya Dugger and her 10-month-old Mia, ran laps through Lincoln Park with their strollers, performed squats with the children in their arms and hoisted them over their heads to get that extra shoulder workout.

"If you are going to look silly, look silly together," Dugger said.

Dugger said the idea was to not only get in a workout without leaving your child with the babysitter, but to meet other new moms who enjoy working out.

Many of the attendees of the first class were business professionals and first-time moms.

"They don't feel like they are being so selfish with their time if they can bring their children along," Dugger said.

The kids were all smiles as they zoomed around the park in their strollers handling curves.

"There's a big social component and active component," Dugger said. "It's a feeling like you are having some time for yourself."

The "stroller bootcamp" class will be held every Wednesday in October and is free for members and $10 for non-members.

The hour-long class kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at Equinox.
