CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy drowned in a pool at McKinley Park this afternoon, fire officials said.

Lifeguards attempted to rescue the boy and pulled him out of the pool at about 2:40 p.m., said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

The boy was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:22 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Officials identified the teen as Christopher Bowen, of the 3700 block of South Rockwell Street.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Park District did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
