CHICAGO — Police on Sunday released a surveillance camera image of the man they say beat a Portage Park store clerk with a baseball bat because the store didn't sell XXXL tank tops.

Police said the man was holding a baseball bat when he walked in the store in the 5500 block of West Belmont Avenue about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and asked for the shirts, police said.

When the employee said the store didn't have them, the man beat him with a baseball bat and fled, police said.

The worker was treated at Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center for a cut on his head and released, police said.

The assailant is described as a black man with brown eyes, black hair and facial hair. He's between 5 feet 8 and 6 feet tall and was wearing a dark bandanna, white tank top and blue shorts. He has a tattoo on his upper right arm.

Police are asking anyone with information about the beating to call detectives at 312-744-8261.
