CHICAGO — A burned body found in an Avondale garbage bin late Sunday night has been ruled a homicide by strangulation, according to medical examiners.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office pronounced the person, whose identity, age and gender remains unknown, dead at 12:45 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters responded to a call about a Dumpster fire in an alley in the 3100 block of North Kimball Avenue about 11:05 p.m. Sunday, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman. Once the fire was extinguished, crews found a body in the Dumpster.
