Man Dies After Being Hit By Train in Roseland

CHICAGO — A man died after he was hit by a freight train on the Far South Side Tuesday night.

A CSX freight train was traveling from Chicago to Waycross, Ga., when it hit the man in the 11400 block of South Wentworth Avenue about 7:45 p.m., CSX spokeswoman Carla Groleau said. The train was on Union Pacific tracks.

The man, who was later identified as Demetrius Jones, 39, of the 6800 block of South Talman Avenue, was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:16 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The medical examiner's office ruled the man's death an accident.
