CHICAGO — Firefighters were called to the scene of an enormous fire that sent smoke billowing from an abandoned building on the South Side Monday afternoon.

The flames broke out in the building in the 6800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood shortly after noon on Monday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to the scene, and more emergency personnel were called to the building as the flames intensified.

No injuries were immediately reported, according to the Chicago Fire Department. The fire was still active at 1:05 p.m., the Fire Department said.
