RIVER NORTH — A man was shot in the head in River North Wedneday afternoon, officials said.

He was shot in the lower back and head near the intersection of West Chicago Avenue and North Hudson Avenue about 1:10 p.m., police said.

Someone flagged the officers down to alert them there was a shooting victim, authorities said. The man was bundled up in many layers of winter clothing, said a police officer on the scene.

Police remained on the scene at 2 p.m. Wednesday near Chicago Lights Urban Garden.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, the fire department said.

Police on the scene said the victim was a man, but further details were not immediately available.

Wednesday's incident was the second shooting in two weeks in River North, an upscale North Side neighborhood that doesn't see much of Chicago's gun violence.

A man also suffered a graze wound to the head the morning of Jan. 16 near Merchandise Mart, police said.
