'Dangerous' Abandoned Building Catches Fire Twice in One Month

HUMBOLDT PARK — A firefighter called an abandoned coachhouse "dangerous" after it caught fire for the second time in a month Wednesday night.

"This building is a dangerous building," he said, adding that children could possibly get inside.

Firefighters responded about 8 p.m. to a fire in two two-story coach houses and a garage at 1646 and 1642 N. Kimball Ave., the Chicago Fire Department said via its Twitter feed.

The firefighter said the house had caught on fire several weeks earlier.

The building was boarded up and had a large "X" sign on the front it.

One woman who lived nearby said squatters were known to be living in the building.

"I think the last time it was squatters that started it," she said.

No one was injured in the fire Wednesday, and the cause was unknown as of 9 p.m.
