Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Truck at Crosswalk

CHICAGO — A 59-year-old man died after he was hit by a tow truck Saturday while crossing the street.

Morris Giles, of the 9000 block of South Chappel Avenue, was struck while in a crosswalk at South Jeffrey Boulevard and East 95th Street at about 8 a.m.. He was pronounced dead at about 2:15 a.m., according to police spokesman John Mirabelli.

The 63-year-old driver of the tow truck, Robert Parks, of the 9000 block of South Cornell Avenue, was traveling south on Jeffrey Boulevard and was turning left onto 95th Street when he hit Giles.

Giles was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with head wounds where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 a.m.

Parks was issued two citations: failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to exercise due care with a pedestrian in the roadway.
