HUMBOLDT PARK — A man was in critical condition after he was shot in the back in Humboldt Park Thursday, officials said.

The 20-year-old was injured about 3 p.m. at 1429 N. Spaulding Ave., the Chicago Fire Department tweeted.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, fire officials said.

Hector Lopez, 22, said he saw the man often in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and had seen him just before the shooting.

"He was just here," Lopez said. "I saw him walking to the gas station.”
