City officials cut the ribbon Sunday on a field they said will be a safer, more flood-resistant upgrade.

Officials unveiled a $915,000 new improvement for the Jefferson Park school yard.

The project will include a bike rack and a "people space" with tables at Devon and Kinzua avenues.

The project is being funded through a $75,000 transportation grant from Cook County.

Officials will hold a "town hall" at the school to discuss the project at 6 p.m. Monday.

Officials are aiming to complete five projects in time for the 2018-19 school year, they said.

Other improvements include turf fields at Schurz High School and Farnsworth Elementary School.

Two town hall meetings will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday to answer questions about the CPS budget.

The fair will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hitch Elementary, 5625 N. McVicker Ave.

The proceeds from the event will supplement the school's budget, organizers said.

Several other Far Northwest Side schools saw their budgets decrease, while some had increases.
