Ald. James Cappleman (46th) wants to open up bidding on Stewart School to developers.

Loukas Development has revised its proposal for 3936 N. Sheridan Road, Ald. James Cappleman said.

A resident launched a petition saying the Zoning and Development Committee does not reflect Uptown.

The developer got the zoning approval he needed to move the project at 3817-45 N. Broadway forward.

Originally, the proposal included 800 residential units. Now it's down to 300.

But don't get too excited — it'll be at least two years until the market comes to fruition.

Ald. Cappleman introduced a bill to remove metered spaces installed in front of low-income building.

At Monday's zoning meeting, the developer said he intended to preserve the building by rebuilding it.

Included in the development is the  Isaac G. Ettleson building, which the developer hopes to preserve.

Tressa Feher, Ald. James Cappleman's chief of staff, said the office had received a few complaints.

"It’s going to pay homage to the firehouse,” said the developer, who is seeking a zoning change.

JDL initially wanted a more than $32 million TIF subsidy — the city is only offering $14 million.

The "family-oriented" apartments would replace the business, whose 75-year-old owner is retiring.

An organizer for the event disputed that claim, saying "it's just not going to be at Montrose Beach."
