Chicago schools are in the midst of a massive budget crisis, and the union blames CEO Forrest Claypool.

Teachers won't walk out of class, Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis said.

"At this point these are cries of desperation. Hear our pleas," said CTU President Karen Lewis.

The rank-and-file "tentatively" ratified a four-year contract, according to a statement from the union.

The rank-and-file will decide whether to ratify an agreement that averted a teachers strike.

A last-minute tentative agreement reached Oct. 10 averted the second teachers strike in four years.

 Claypool has "earned the contempt" of parents and teachers, CTU Vice President Jesse Sharkey said.

CTU and CPS officials reached an agreement minutes before the midnight strike deadline.   

The tentative, four-year accord averts the district's second strike in four years.

"We want no cuts to our pay and benefits," CTU President Karen Lewis said.

UNO teachers planned a Thursday rally to protest stalled contract talks.  

The Chicago Teachers Union House of Delegates set the Oct. 11 deadline on Wednesday.

But she's still ready to fight: "I know bad words, too," she said at a Girl Talk event Tuesday night.
