WOODLAWN — In a Halloween surprise, former first lady Michelle Obama and Prince Harry popped in on students at Hyde Park Academy High School Tuesday afternoon.

Obama and Harry are in town for the Obama Summit at the Marriot Marquis in the South Loop, but made time to visit with students next to the future site of the Obama Presidential Center.

The visit to the school at 6220 S. Stony Island Ave. was to help introduce students who aren't able to attend the summit to world leaders brought to Chicago by the Obamas.

Obama and Harry spent about an hour at the school, according to Caroline Adler Morales, Michelle Obama’s communications director:

"Mrs. Obama and Prince Harry surprised approximately 20 students at Hyde Park Academy, a high school across from the future site of the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago.

The warm and wide-ranging conversation, lasting over an hour, covered how the Obama Presidential Center will showcase the South Side of Chicago for a global audience, the importance of young people staying inspired and hopeful, and the transformative power of students using their voices to change the world."
