'Monster Hell Challenge' Among Halloween Events in Chinatown, Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — There will be more to do this Halloween than trick or treat. Here are six things to do for the holiday in the neighborhood this weekend.

For Kids

Taylor-Lauridsen Park Halloween Party: Kids 2-13 are invited to wear their costumes and celebrate the holiday at the park's annual Halloween Party. There will be games, inflatables, arts and crafts and of course snacks for the kids. 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday, 704 W. 42nd St.

McKinley Park Library Halloween Story Time and Parade: The library branch will hold a Halloween-themed story time, singalongs and a parade around the library. It is open to children up to 5 years old, and parents and kids are both invited to come in costume. 6 p.m. Monday at 1915 W. 35th St.

Daley Library Halloween Monster Crafts: A Halloween-themed arts and crafts session will be held at the library for kids ages 5 and up. 2-3 p.m. Saturday, 3400 S. Halsted St.

String's Level 5 Hell Ramen includes red chili, Sichuan chili bean sauce, Thai chili, Piquin chili, ghost pepper, scorpion pepper, spicy pork, baby clams and crispy pork skins. [Provided/Strings Ramen]

For adults

Strings Ramen's Monster Hell Challenge: Try the terrifyingly hot ramen dish available at Strings this holiday weekend. Inspired by the Buddhist beliefs that hell is divided into numerous levels, the challenge invites guests to try five different ramen dishes of varying heat. It culminates in the Monster Hell Challenge, in which guests will have to finish the Level Five Hell Ramen in less than 20 minutes. Note: You'll have to sign a waiver to participate. 11 a.m.- midnight, 2141 S. Archer Ave.

Shinnick's Pub Halloween Party: Enter into the pub's costume contest at its Halloween party that will also include a $25 kitty and a DJ. 7 p.m. Friday, 3758 S. Union St.

For Both

Antique Taco Pumpkin Picnic: Enjoy chipotle pumpkin soup, kettle korn, apple and gouda grilled quesadillas and an apple spice slushy while you decorate pumpkins at Antique Taco's Sunday event. Other Halloween crafts and games will be held. noon-4 p.m. Sunday, 1000 W. 35th St.

Valentine Boys & Girls Club Haunted House: The Boys & Girls Club will hold its annual house Friday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and all proceeds will benefit the club. 5-8 p.m. Friday, 3400 S. Emerald Ave.
